Troyer Farms Helps Bob Sanders
Gannon University in Erie, PA hosted the 2nd Annual Bob Sanders Skills & Drills Football Camp Friday and Saturday, June 27th & 28th. The camp was attended by 300 football players representing 34 separate schools from every corner of District 10 in Northwest PA. The camp was free for those fortunate athletes who attended. Each camper was invited by their respective high school head football coach to participate. Some of the most talented players in the state of Pennsylvania had the opportunity to work side by side with one of their on-field and off-field heroes, Bob Sanders of the Indianapolis Colts. Sanders, an Erie native, started the camp last year as a means to give back to his hometown community. Sanders’ own generosity, coupled with the support of local organizations, has made this one of the best two-day camps in the country. Sanders was joined by a coaching staff with unparalleled experience. Over 60 area high school and collegiate coaches, including 24 current or former head coaches, coached at the camp.
Sanders hopes this becomes a community event annually. “I want people to come by and see what this camp is all about. I want them to experience the greatness of football and rich heritage of the sport in my hometown.” The camp also hostedN.F.L. Films, who was on-site to film a commercial for the United Way that will air this fall. They also captured film for use for some N.F.L. Network spots and promotions. The commercials will air nationally this coming season.
Overall, this is a huge undertaking and Sanders deserves the credit as the inspiration for the camp. Sanders enjoyed a phenomenal season in 2007/08 as he was named First Team All-Pro and was selected as theN.F.L.’s Defensive Football Player of the Year. Troyer Farms provided snacks for all the athletes for the 2 day event.
